What does a Pelvic Physical Therapy evaluation involve?
A typical evaluation includes:
-
A comprehensive medical and surgical history review
-
Patient thorough interview to understand bowel/bladder routines and any other pelvic concern
-
A bowel, bladder diary analysis, and pelvic pain pattern analysis
-
Assessment of posture, breathing, and core function
-
Age-appropriate pelvic floor muscle testing, adults have internal examination with informed consent, while children have only an external pelvic floor examination
-
Use of tools like biofeedback to improve awareness and control
-
Collaborative planning, as needed, with caregivers and medical teams
Patients are never forced to participate in any part of an evaluation—they are supported with empathy and respect.
