Treatments for Men

Men and women possess similar anatomy in terms of their pelvic floor muscles and the way they function. There are a variety of reasons why men may experience symptoms related to pelvic floor muscle dysfunction including  constipation, surgeries, prostate conditions, hip weakness, falls and many more. Our therapists work toward evaluating and determining the cause of the pelvic floor muscle dysfunction and whether it is related to muscles underactivity, overactivity or discoordination.

At In Control Physical Therapy we see our male patients post prostatectomy, and we work towards enhancing the surgical outcomes and success overcoming urinary incontinence and any other symptoms you may experience after surgery. We provide a variety of treatments including computer assisted exercise which is often referred to as biofeedback. Patients will have a visual tool to learn how to strengthen and/or relax their pelvic floor muscles as needed. Other treatments provided include postural, dietary and behavioral modifications as well as a home exercise program that does not require any special equipment. Treatment options vary based on patient preference and need.

We treat the following conditions:

  • Urinary incontinence

  • Urinary frequency or urgency

  • Fecal incontinence

  • Painful elimination (bowel or bladder)
